• Attachment - where one branch is attached to another; Burr - a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner e.g. a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk; Buttressing - large fluting growth from root collar to root system; Callus - undifferentiated cells often formed at the edges of recent injuries. This tissue quickly becomes differentiated, forming cells of the type characteristic of that position on the tree (e.g. forming wood, bark, roots, etc.) as wound response tissue; Canopy - total extent of branches and leaves; Cavity - large opening or void in trunk or stem; Cobra/cable brace - installed canopy support, attaching one stem to another ostensibly to prevent failure; Co-dominant - two parallel stems growing from same attachment; Cracks - normally very visible with delamination of wood; Crown - interchangeable with canopy; Crown lifting / raising - the removal of the lowest branches, usually to a given height. It allows more residual light and greater clearance underneath for vehicles etc.; Crown reduction - the reduction of a tree’s height or spread while preserving its natural shape.
